Adventures in Apartment Living

So our adventure began last Friday (just a warning I am not a great story teller or writer but this is a great story so here it goes). I was having a hard day with Grace she was refusing to take her afternoon nap and Carmen was bugging me. I finally got Grace to sleep at 4 and Ben called to say he was on his way home. Then Carmen starts barking for no apparent reason and of course I freak out because I just got Grace down so I get her to stop by bribbing her with peanut butter. Then Carmen runs to her bed in the living room and poops on it (she was sick, this never happens), it then becomes very clear why Carmen had been bugging me and started barking. So I am so tired at this point I don't want to deal with poop patrol so I pick up her bed and move it. In the process I find Carmen's first accident with my bare foot and try not to yell because Grace is asleep. Then Ben gets home and he is the best husband and starts to clean up Carmen's mess. Ben then says to me "I think we have a mold problem" and takes me to our bathroom where we find a mushroom growing out of our wall. Can you believe that?!?! I am from Oregon and have never seen such a thing and here I am living in the desert and there's a mushroom growing out of my wall. To give a little background there is water damage on that wall because the shower door doesn't close all the way. A few weeks ago I called maintence because there was slim on the wall and they came and cleaned it and painted it with white paint that doesn't match the rest of the bathroom. Next we walk over to management and they promptly tell us that we can't stay in our apartment until this gets fixed. They say we can either stay at the model apartment or they will reimburse us for a hotel. We opted for the model apartment because it's close and at this point we could still go into our apartment to get things we needed. They also say that there is a guest suite that is made for living in that will be available Monday. So we get to the model apartment and there are no doors, no trash cans, no soap, no childproofing etc. All of which make things really interesting with Grace since she's now walking and is into everything. Well Monday rolls around and they start work on our apartment and they tell us the the family in the guest suite will be out that night and they will clean it Tuesday morning so we can move in Tuesday afternoon. Well then Tuesday came and they tell us that the people are refusing to leave the guest suite into their newly remodeled apartment and now management has called their lawyers to legally kick these people out. Now it's Wednesday and the people have recieved the letter from the lawyer and still refuse to leave so the head maintence guy says he'll make the model more liveable. He puts up a door from another apartment that doesn't fit, gets the washer and dryer to work, and gives me a vinyl shower curtain so I can use the shower without ruining their decorative shower curtain. So here we are Thursday still in the model apartment waiting for our apartment to be fixed (basically a whole new bathroom). Grace and I have spent a lot of time at the mall in the play area and we have a lot of great friends that have been making us wonderful dinners so we don't have to go out every night since there is nothing to cook with in the model. Thanks to all that have helped us we really appreciate it.

Mel and Ben!!! I am so sorry. I cannot believe that is happening to you guys. That is horrible. When I told Nathan what happened he said they better get good pictures of that- so now you have completed Nathan's life. Good luck! I hope that is you can get back into your place soon.

That is horrible!!! I am so sorry. I hope that they get you moved back in soon and that you don't have any more issues with the mold/mushrooms. Hopefully it will make a good story some day that you can look back on and laugh about.

That is one crazy mushroom. And I am sorry you had to step in poo Melanie. That is one thing I have not had the privilege too. However, it makes me realize that your dog drives you just as nuts as mine, and it tells me my feelings are completely normal!
